How to know when it’s time to redesign or refresh your website

How to know when it’s time to redesign or refresh your website

I look at and go through websites each day as part of what I do for towing companies.  I see good ones, bad ones, ugly ones and simply flat out ineffective ones. I often get asked by towing owners.  “how often should I refresh or redesign my towing company website?” The simple and short very broad answer is every two to three years.

Most experts would agree on this.  If your website looks and feels outdated, not by your eyes, but by your customers eyes, then it probably is.  Google and other search engines are constantly evolving their metrics for which items are important for the way they rank websites based on keyword searches.  As those metrics change over time, you have to change with them or either get left behind and let your competitor pick up the slack.

The longer answer to how often you should redesign or refresh your website lies deeper within each individual towing business and their specific market competition.  How well does your website perform on several different metrics is where the more exact answer to this question lies.

How often are you getting leads from your website?

If you don’t know the answer to this question, that is ok, we can help you determine that.  If you aren’t getting enough leads from your website, this reason alone isn’t the sole indication of a new website needed, but one worth investigating.

Understanding Traffic On Your Website

How much traffic (visitors) on your website and are you converting them into customers?  Usually, in the towing world, a conversion is when your phone rings with a towing call. If you haven’t made it very easy for people to know on your website what you offer and how to get a hold of you within seconds, they may leave your website and go to another local competitor.  Again, this reason alone is not the only indicator do a redesign of a website, but something to think through and address.

Is your website mobile friendly or responsive?

Google gives priority to websites that are mobile responsive over ones that only show up in a desktop format.  Plus, if you don’t have a mobile friendly website, your customer is not going to be impressed with your first business impression.  They may get frustrated on your website because it is hard to read and navigate, not laid out well, and leave your site to go find an easy more “professional” towing website company to work with.

Is your website running too slow?

Older websites often can have performance issues.  If your web page load times are too long, again prospects could leave from your website in frustration and go a towing competitor.  A website redesign would improve your load times if you have an older website that is slow to load.

How can Grow Your Tow Help?

If your website doesn’t rank well on search sites like Google, Yahoo and Bing, it might be a very good indicator that you need a new website.  Your websites performance and design are huge factors that play into how you rank on the search engines. Your website load speed, on page search engine optimization (SEO), and user experience all factor into this.

The bottom line is this; if you can relate to some or most of the items listed above for your towing companies website, it is a good idea to give us a call and let me and my team take a look at the website you are working with.  If you don’t need a new website, we aren’t going to push one on you and tell you that you do. Other companies may try and do this. If after looking at your website, and we come to the conclusion that you could benefit from a new one we would make that suggestion to you.  The other factor we would have you consider is does the return on investment for a new website makes sense for your towing business. In almost all cases the answer is yes to this question. If you average $75-$125 a towing call, depending upon where you live and work, the Grow Your Tow first tier website has paid for itself in 10 towing calls.
